As a kid, I once flew with Cathay Pacific and during my childhood times I found the international airline of Hong Kong to be a decent carrier. The main reason why I am writing this review about Cathay Pacific is to explore the origins and improvements of the airline since I last flew with them. “Cathay” is actually an Anglicized version of ‘Catai’ which is an alternative name of China in English originated from the Khitan people. Now let’s discover how it all started…
Cathay Pacific Origins
The airlines trace its roots back to January 1946 with two ex-airforce pilots, Sydney de Kantzow and Roy Farrell, and was originally known as “Roy Farrell Export-Import Co., Ltd” initially catering flights to Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai and grew fast that even Hong Kong’s leading trade company, Swire Group, took a 45% share by then. When Farrell and Kantzow re-registered their business in Hong Kong, that was when the rebranding to “Cathay Pacific” took place on the 24th of September 1946.
Now, the growing fleet of the airline had already reached 187 aircraft which service to 177 destinations worldwide. It surely had been “Life Well Travelled” with Cathay Pacific, since the airline was famous for its First Class cabin service that recently they were even included at the “World’s Best Airlines for First Class travel in 2015” by Skytrax and it’s not that recognition alone, Cathay Pacific had been consistently honored with several awards from different categories and the most recent was being the Top 3 in the World’s Top 100 Airlines (2015).
On Board Services
The airline has four cabin services classified as Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First Class. Each class has designated uniqueness, their new Economy Class was upgraded to provide a better experience: a more convenient storage space, inflight entertainment and 6” recline seat that will allow travelers to sleep while travelling. Meanwhile, Premium Economy provides more legroom space that lets passengers work and dine.

The Website and Mobile App
Initially, the official site of Cathay Pacific will let customers select their country of origin and language. After choosing, it will redirect them to the home page wherein customers can book a trip or hotel reservation, check-in online and even manage their booked flights. The smooth colors of green provide a relaxing mood while navigating the page, plus the background of an infinity pool adds up to the sum total of the well-organized layout.
The page provides information, including the airline’s policies, service and even the frequent flyer, Marco Polo Club. It also entices travelers to the most viewed offers, destinations and package deals. Their social media accounts are also shown on the bottom part of the page.
Cathay Pacific had also extended their services via mobile application. The travel app of the airline is available on the App Store and Google Play Store. The mobile app of Cathay Pacific has similar features with the PC version and Cathay Pacific reviews show that the travel app is reliable.
