Ebookers was established in 1998 but was originally founded twenty years ago as Flightbookers and was recognized for being UK’s first online travel agency and with the continued success rebranded to Ebookers. However, the company was acquired by Cendant Corporation in 2005 and made its way to operate under Orbitz in 2007 for its Europe travel accommodations.
Let’s get back to where it originated. Ebookers started out from a travel agency in a kiosk in Earl’s Court Station by 65-year old British-Indian business entrepreneur Dinesh Dhamija and his wife.
Ebookers’ interface is user friendly with the contrast of blue and orange, a perfect choice to express holidays and vacations. The features of the website let customers search and compare flights, hotel reservations, cruises and car rentals.
Aside from the main feature of Ebookers, promotions generally take up the remaining part of the site in which customers can see more holiday packages with prices, duration, destination and saving percentage.
Ebookers has a program called “eBookers BONUS+”, wherein travelers can register as long as they are 18 and above with a valid email address. Once registered, customers get to earn Bonus+ whenever they book with Ebookers. However this program has Terms and Conditions, to see the terms and condition of the program, click here.
Ebookers displays prices in Euro currency and they are aware of this. However there’s no option to change the display amount into the customer’s country currency, but Ebookers sees to it that customers can check how much it is in their rate by clicking the Currency Converter located just on the top of the page.
Ebookers has a mobile application of all these services mentioned above. Their travel app and PC version are getting more and more complaints everyday. Most of the customers who recently booked with Ebookers are complaining majorly on not reading reviews first before booking with them. Now they end up feeling miserable and regretful. The most recent review was posted earlier, she actually said:
“This is my open letter to Ebookers
Congrats Ebookers. You’re currently the WORST TRAVEL AGENT EVER. You are probably going to delete this just like how you did to my previous post. To anyone reading this STEER AWAY FROM EBOOKERS. Extremely appalled at the terrible customer service, very incompetent bunch of service staff giving template answers and absolutely of no help to my situation.”
That was just the opening statement of her concern. To read her full story and other Ebookers reviews, click here.

Judging through various Ebookers reviews, I can see that the European online travel agency has really been one of the pioneers with this kind of business. However they forgot that business is about people. People do business with people, they don’t do business with ideas, things or money. My point here, even you are at the peak of your success, you should still know how to be efficient with the service your customers had paid for.
