Emirates History and Facts
Emirates initially began in 1985 when Gulf Air ceased flights to Dubai and the Royal Family (of Dubai) decided to establish an airline which is independent of government subsidies. They started with two leased aircraft from Dubai Royal Air Wing, which cater initial flights from Dubai to Karachi. Pakistan International Airlines also provided technical and administrative assistance to the new carrier by then.
Now, Emirates has a total fleet size of 234 which service 164 destinations worldwide. The parent company of the largest airline in the Middle East is “The Emirates Group”. Aside from being the 7th largest airline in terms of revenue, Emirates is also the world’s 3rd largest international carrier.
Their current slogan is “Fly Emirates. Hello Tomorrow” and the logo is a calligraphy of the word “Emirates” in Arabic.
Emirates lets travellers experience three kinds of cabin with a class of its own: Economy, Business and First Class. Flight Attendants don’t practice favoritism among the passengers, they ensure that each class passenger is treated fairly and properly. All three classes are accommodated with designated carefully selected meals and beverages. To keep them entertained, the ICE system (Inflight entertainment) offers a range of 600 movies, 200 videos, TV shows, 1000 hours of music and 100 video games. They also offer docking capability for Apple’s iPod, which integrates with the IFE system that can play music, television shows, or movies stored on the iPod, and functions as a control system.
The frequent flyer of Emirates is called “Emirates Skywards” which is actually has similar frequent-flyer partnerships with: Alaska Airlines, easyJet, Japan Airlines, Jet Airways, JetBlue, Jetstar, Korean Air, Qantas, S7 Airlines, South African Airways, TAP Portugal, Virgin America.

I got no negative comment with regards to their site, it was carefully designed. The features and functionality are well-organized. The official page of the airline also contains interesting facts and videos that travelers will surely love to read and watch. News updates with changes are shown there too. Like other pages, Emirates provides information of the airline services, policies and applications. These include information about Emirates Skywards and their travel app.
The mobile app has similar features with its PC version. Both in Google Play Store and App Store, Emirates reviews of mobile users are giving positive feedback of the application’s features. Customers can book, manage and check their flight booking. They can even access their boarding pass and guides to over 140 destinations. As an Emirates Skywards member, they can also redeem their miles through their smart phones.
According to 901 Emirates reviews, the airlines had garnered an overall star rating of 6/10, wherein passengers are really appreciative over Emirates services not only on board but also during check-in and departure. The most recent review was posted on the 18th of February 2016 and he titled his review “Had a brilliant experience”. He actually said:
“We travelled with Emirates airline to go Pakistan with a 2 hour stop in Dubai airport. When we went from Birmingham, at the desk the ladies who let luggage go though were really friendly, as 1 of our bags had gone over the luggage allowance but they still let it go through. Sitting in the plane was really exciting for my son, and the area around our seats was clean. Cabin staff was so welcoming and helpful, they gave lots of refreshments throughout the journey and and were very attentive. Overall we had a brilliant experience with Emirates.”
