Hostelworld is a product of Web Reservations International (WRI). It all began when a hostel owner and an IT entrepreneur thought of an online business to start a market for online booking into hostels. Knowing as early as those times that there’s no technology solution that existed which makes most of the transactions manually than online, this didn’t hinder them to continue what they started.
Hostelworld was the first online hostel booking agency that launched a travel social media network in November 2006 with the largest number of customer reviews and ratings at that time.
However in 2009, the private equity investment firm, Hellman and Friedman LLC, acquired WRI. Mr. Feargal Mooney who was the CEO of Web Reservations International (WRI) said it was a way of acceleration and pacing for growth. This merge or partnership was a wombo combo that WRI sold €350 million worth of accommodation, generating net revenues of €38 million with its subsidiary sites, which are: Hostels, Boo, Bedandbreakfastworld, and Trav.
Meeting the world with Hostelworld
I love how the interface of Hostelworld looks like with its low contrast of black and orange plus the background image of a hostel. Basically Hostelworld is a online meta search engine for customers looking for the cheapest hostels from 33,000 properties in 170 countries.
A feedback option is also available in Hostelworld, wherein customers get to send their overall rate about the site’s services, improvement, recommendation, and open commentary box. This service is located at the left hand of the page.
Now, Hostelworld had extended their services through mobile application. Their mobile travel app recently released an update to version 3.10. The features of Hostelworld’s mobile app are pretty similar to the PC version where travelers gets to book hostels, create travel wishlist, manage their booking, and get inspired with their Blog
Hostelworld Reviews of Customers
Checking various Hostelworld reviews, the online meta search engine is achieving too many positive reviews but if you’ll double check you’ll realize these are just made up reviews. Don’t believe me? click here. However, the overlapped negative reviews are legit personal accounts wherein their own loyal customers are saying that Hostelworld is going downhill with Hellman & Friedman along with other online hotel booking companies. She even noted that Hostelworld is now just all about making money. It seems like one of their customers is really not satisfied with this kind of sudden change. How To Reach Them?

In A Nutshell
Based from some Hostelworld reviews, it looks almost good-to-go booking with them. What leaves me hanging in doubt is why do they need to come up with fake good consumer reviews just to cover up the negative reviews of the customers, don’t they know that mistakes are not just errors but they are lessons too? They can learn great things from their mistakes, if they aren’t busy denying them.
