The Indian-based travel site was founded by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar on June, 3 2006. Mr. Bajpaj and Kumar are also SAIF Partners, a venture and growth capital fund invested in helping Asia’s exceptional companies grow from concept to IPO. Micromax and MakeMyTrip are investors in Ixigo.
Mr. Bajpai and Kumar didn’t have a smooth beginning with Ixigo. In the first 6 months, the travel site was able to reach 100 thousand users. However funding was enough that even Indian investors are not interested despite the traction.
Ixigo doesn’t assist customers to book flights, hotels and other travel services but rather assists travelers to find their preferred airfare and reservations. Once customers are satisfied, Ixigo will redirect travelers to the page of the airline or travel site that provided the actual deal.
Well, I noticed Ixigo’s layout is similar to Momondo’s interface, I wonder if this a coincidence or if Ixigo did this for a reason. What I meant is the majority of the whole page shows thumbnails of popular destinations and other striking resemblances.
They also extended their services on mobile phones which are available in the App store and Google Play store. Similar to the PC version, customers can search and compare the best airfares, reservations, trip planning, airline/hotel information and services. This travel app was awarded as the best travel app in India. To see more about the mobile version of Ixigo, click here.
Ixigo also has a feedback section wherein customers can freely write any suggestion, question, and problem. It will be requiring the name, email address, type of concern and mobile number of the customer. This Feedback service is powered by WebEngage.
In 2010, the travel site was honored with “TiE-Lumis Partners Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards 2010” at the TiE Entrepreneurial Summit 2010, due to being as one of the largest entrepreneurship symposiums in Asia.
I am not surprised to read several Ixigo reviews about the travel site’s inefficiency. Consumers are complaining mostly about Ixigo’s false marketing specially about the cashback services. Almost all of the comments are about the company’s rudeness and patheticness, rating them as ⅕ or others will even note it as a no-star review.
One reviewer even said she had made a booking through Ixigo and she hadn’t received the promised cashback. The Ixigo representative keeps saying she has no booking made with them, even though she has the screenshots of the transactions and the copy of the confirmation email. She felt cheated that she gave Ixigo a 1 out 5 rating.

In A Nutshell
Ixigo was launched to simplify the searching needs of travelers but it doesn’t appear to be so, that’s the effect to consumers according to some Ixigo reviews. If the company is having difficulty itself then it won’t be easy for them to handle customer’s concerns yet. I think they should fix things first internally. I hope they are actually doing this in some ways.
