KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the oldest airline operating and active was founded in 1929 by a young aviator lieutenant, Mr. Albert Plesman, the airline traces its roots when Mr. Plesman sponsored ELTA aviation exhibition in Amsterdam. That exhibition was successful and interested many Dutch commercials to start a Dutch Airline and Mr. Plesman was nominated to lead this new airline. The first flight of KLM happened on May 17, 1920 from London to Amsterdam.

The current President and Chief Executive Officer of KLM is Mr. Pieter Elbers, since October 15, 2014. He is a 45-year old Dutch who is a member of International Advisory Board of International Institute of Air & Space Law (IIASL)

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

The Dutch airlines is with alliance with SkyTeam since 2004 with a fleet size of 115: (17) Airbus A330; (48) Boeing 737; (25) Boeing 747; (25) Boeing 777. The national flag carrier of Netherlands is headquartered in Amstelveen with its main hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

If you are wondering what does KLM stand for then you’re on the right page. KLM is an abbreviation for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij which means Royal Aviation Company. In 2004, KLM merged with Air France, incorporated by the French Law.

In Flight Services

There are three classes in KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. In each class they provide royal-like service, let me enumerate them down:

  • KLM Reviews-on boardEconomy Class – customers will be served with complimentary meals and beverages. A snack or sandwich is also given depending on customer’s traveling time. A personal entertainment is given to cease the boredom. The legroom space is at least 4 inches.
  • Europe Business – this class is similar to a Business Class. Customer will get the priority baggage handling, security screening, separated check-in line and complimentary meals and beverages like wine, juices or soft drinks.
  • World Business – customers under this class have similar benefits with the Europe Business passengers however in this class, the customer enjoys a three-meal course service, traditional KLM gift given.

*The inflight meals are a mixture of Dutch and Northern cuisines. Seatback entertainment are mostly in all intercontinental flights.

Website and Mobile Services

pageTheir website features let customers search for flights, manage booking, check-in online, check flight status and provide travel information. The option to change language is located at the top right of the page, this will give you the option to select your country. An image of their aircraft is the background of the website with sky blue and white colours. The website of the airline provides information to customers like travel preparation, guide and destinations.

KLM mobile services provide the same features as the website of the airline, options like: booking a trip, change seats, check-in online, flight status and even checking customer’s Flying Blue.

KLM Reviews of Passengers

According to 485 KLM reviews, the Dutch airline had received a total rating score of 7/10 based from several positive reviews from passengers. Travellers are commenting about the good value of money they spent with KLM. They had also considered their KLM experience as one of the best flights they had in their life. What actually caused these KLM Reviews were the enough legroom space, friendly flight attendants and the meals served were good. Majority of the KLM reviews ended their feedback with “I would definitely fly with them again”.

What Else Can I Say?

After reading tons of KLM reviews, there’s nothing more luxurious than the service that they provide since Day 1 of 1929. The genius founder Mr. Plesman really made a masterpiece with KLM. He’ll be very proud with the airline’s growth and success. Just so you know, the airline is at the 28th spot with this year’s Top 100 Airlines. Royal Dutch service at its finest!   1. As a Flying Blue Gold card holder 3 times out of 4 I was approached personally by Purser and offered Economy Extra seat. Generally cabin service is the same as other European airlines but cabin crew were helpful friendly and professional (except the last sector AMS-WAW while despite almost empty flight cabin crew responsible for recognizing top customers didn’t do anything).
