Manta Resort’s Underwater Room
If you could spend a night of your vacation under the sea alongside beautiful fish, would you want to? Of course! But, until mankind learns how to breathe through our non-existent gills, we’re forced to come up with a few more creative options. The Manta Resort in Zanzibar has come up with just such an idea. In this review, let us show you Manta Resort’s Underwater Room!
Getting to the Secluded-Unique-Underwater Room
The floating structure, Swedish-engineered, provides three levels, those above the water clad in local hardwood, and each an experience in itself. It sits just 250m from shore, floating alone in seclusion from the rest of the resort. To get to this floating suite, visitors take a 2-minute boat ride from the shore. There, they are welcomed with lunch upon arrival and are shown around this floating private getaway.
Meals will be delivered to your room based on agreed-upon times. Discounts are available for honeymooners, and a night in the underwater room can be tacked onto almost any regular stay at the main resort.
Day and Night
The landing deck, at sea level, has a lounge area and a bathroom facility. A ladder leads up to the roof which has a lounging area for sun worshiping by day, and by night, you can lie back in the starlight and wonder at the extraordinary clarity of the stars, planets, and above all, the edge of our own galaxy, seeing the wonderful Milky Way, all seen without any light pollution. If you’re feeling really brave, you can take a dive into the deep from this point.
By night, as you lay on the double bed of your room, you can gaze out onto an almost 360-degree view of the deep blue sea. Sleep under the stars to the soft murmuring of the sea. Or, if you want to mesmerize the underwater spotlights, view beneath each window around the room, then it’s a good choice too.
The spotlights attract the shyer and more unusual, for instance, squid. Coral is already establishing itself on the anchoring lines and around the underwater structure. Octopi and even Spanish dancers have been seen attaching themselves to the glass panes. The reef inhabitants can simply not resist attraction, which makes for exciting watching and a truly unique experience.
