Spirit Airlines wasn’t an airline company from the start. It started as “Clipper Trucking Company” in 1964 and grew up to be an airline service in 1980 as Charter One founded by Ned Homfeld. On May 29, 1992, after the massive growth of Charter One, the name was changed to Spirit Airlines.

However, in 2000, the airline was fined with $67,000 for violating federal regulations on cabin, seat markings, and placard. It took them 3 years to resume operating. The newly-appointed President and CEO of Spirit Airlines since January 2016, Robert L. Fornaro, was also the Chairman or CEO of AirTran Holdings Inc.

Spirit Airline’s’ main bases are at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The airline has a current fleet size of 87 all-Airbus aircraft. Recently, in February 2015, Spirit Airlines won the award for “Value Airline of the Year” by the 41st ATW Airlines Industry Achievement Awards which happened in Washington, DC.

PC and Mobile Services

The official website of Spirit Airlines is really catchy with its stunning sports-yellow and black color. Plus, the font style of the words are informal but readable. The website’s language is interchangeable between English and Spanish with a click at the top right of the page.

The interface of the website: the layout of each section provides easy access for customers to manage their travel, check-in online, and check flight status. The other sections give customers the option to book a flight, book a hotel reservation, car rentals, and cruise reservations. An image of the ongoing promotions Spirit Airlines offers is flashing at the right hand of the page. Further down the page, it shows services of Spirit Airlines, which are the following: $9 Fare Club, Spirit Mastercard, and Free Spirit.

Spirit 101 is an online guide to educate customers as to why Spirit Airlines differs from others. To see the actual page of Spirit 101, click here.

Spirit Airlines also has a mobile app for Android-user customers. The app is only available in the Google PlayStore for download. The mobile app’s features give customers the access to book a flight, hotel reservations, car rentals, and check flight status. However the app is getting a bad rating from their customers.

In this Spirit Airlines reviews, despite the discrepancies and violations they have done in 2000 and even so in 2008, being the airline with the highest number of complaints per passenger and foul advertising campaigns within the past decade, the airline is really struggling to rise, but a good thing about them is they are not giving up the fight they started.

“LESS MONEY. MORE GO” is the slogan of Spirit Airlines. The airline remains the only American airline with 2 stars from the Skytrax airline rating. Nothing is over until you stop trying. They didn’t stop trying!

  1. I didn’t end up flying with Spirit Airlines. I arrived early for my flight and was told extremely abruptly (as though it was my fault) that the flight had been cancelled. No reason given. I was treated as a nuisance for asking what my options were from there. Refund or rebook. I rebooked, only to find that the original flight was later running as scheduled and had lost my seat. Do not fly this airline unless you are desperate – client service is clearly not their strong suit.
