If you had heard of the news recently, then you’ll know why I am writing a review about the second largest airline of Australia (next to Qantas, in Australia).

Recently, HNA Aviation had announced that they will invest $159 million in Virgin as part of the deal, and plan to increase its stake to 19.99 percent over time. Virgin and HNA Aviation Group will fly directly between Australia and a number of Chinese cities starting next year, and will co-ordinate code-sharing, frequent flyer programs, and lounge access.

While analysts praised the strategic value of the deal, questions remain about how much capital Virgin needs to raise to support its growth strategy and how it will manage five airline shareholders. In this review, let’s look at how Virgin Australia service is lately.

Humble Beginnings

Virgin BlueVirgin Australia started with a fleet of Boeing 737-400 in 2000 while operating as Virgin Blue. This airline was once offered only return flights between Sydney and Brisbane. It was in 2011 when the airline had rebranded to Virgin Australia. Now, they operate to more than 50 destinations internationally with 100 aircraft consisting of Boeing, Airbus and Embraer.

Flying with Virgin Australia

There are three kinds of cabin classes offered on board: Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class.

Economy – passengers flying this class won’t feel left out even by Premium Economy and Business. since customers are offered with complimentary meals and beverages. Even if it’s economy, there are two types of fare available in this class: Saver and Flexi. Only customers flying international long-haul services have an access to the inflight entertainment in Economy Class.

The Website and Mobile App

Virgin Australia has a modernized web page but it doesn’t complicate things. Their official site actually is more user-friendly and easier to navigate. The site lets customers search and book for flights, hotel reservations, car rentals and holiday packages. Like other travel site features, Virgin Australia provides information regarding their service, policies and news updates. Velocity members and non-members can also have a separate page for their program.

Virgin Australia also has a mobile app available in the App Store but the travel app alone is garnering a lot of bad reviews from its users. Their service reviews on board are a different story

Virgin Australia Reviews of Passengers

According to 444 Virgin Australia reviews, the airline had an overall score rating of 6/10 which is evidently above average. This resulted from the feedback of travellers lately recognizing the service of the airline as exemplary. Most of these recent reviews are telling they didn’t expect more than being comfortable on board but received exclusive services.

Overview

As I expected from the airline on the 16th spot on last years World’s Top 100 Airlines, I wonder if this year’s ranking will change Virgin Australia’s standing. This airline has been one of the finest airlines that provide high-end services.

  1. All flights were excellent and with friendly and hard working crews. We had engineering problems with an Embraer jet from Townsville to Brisbane and was transferred to another jet on the tarmac. Unfortunately our connections to Melbourne from Brisbane was not smooth but we did gladly wait 3 hours in the Virgin Lounge to await our 3 delay. Overall was well handled and especially with the Easter rush to get everybody home safely. Well Done Virgin Australia.
